Dear Groovy Readers

How the hell are ya?

If you’ve been blogging for a long time or since last week, you might have heard something about your target audience or your ideal reader.

And allow me to say something else controversial here, I’ve never had one.  Or it’s always been you.

Reading from wherever you are, drinking whatever you’re drinking.  Whether you’re in a coffeeshop or on your couch.

I don’t care how old you are.  I’ve been all different ages while writing this blog.

I don’t care where you’re from.  I don’t know where I’m from, either.

I don’t care if you have kids.  And if you have them, I don’t care how they came out of you/your wife/your girlfriend, or how you fed them when they got here.  As long you fed them.

I don’t care if got your kids from your gene-pool or an airport or an animal shelter.  They’re your kids.

I don’t care if you drive a wheelchair or a minivan or a Mazda.  Or all three.

I don’t care if you’re sitting in your kitchen in a house in the neighborhood you grew up in, or 4, 000 miles from it.

However.  In order to understand what I write, and where I write from, it might help if you are a 30something, disabled, expatish parent.  Or any combination of those things.  It would be extra groovy if you were outspoken about all of your things, and not defined by any one of them.

Thanks for reading.

  1. Haha this was such a delight to read. I agree with you, I want to blog about my whole life and even though I’m a mother, I do have a life outside of that too. And having a set targeted audience makes me feel… restricted? I don’t care who my audiences are, they can be anything they want. As long as they take the time to read or comment then I’m jumping up and down! I am all sorts of things: pharmacist, mother, daughter, wife, drug dealer (jokes) and I love so many different things that it’s hard to be defined as just 1 category!

  2. I am none of those things you suggested might help me understand you, but what I am enjoys reading your posts. I think I do not have a target audience either – truth is, I really started my blog to have a place to post pictures to keep up with friends when I traveled (which was not often), then it became my place to post pictures and sound off when I felt like it, and it has pretty much remained that. When the words cry to be freed, then I post.

  3. Well I’m only a 30 somethingish parent but I still get you and your vibe even if i’m not some of the other things! As you already kind of know that we’re oddly similarish in many ways. And I have no ideal target audience either. I went to several blog conferences and got caught up in having to blog to fit with what the popular kids are doing and then I realized, that’s not me. So I blog for me. And it’s enough.

  4. HAHA, I am none of those things. I’ve a reader. You talk about books and life. I think that is what caught my attention somewhere in a Freshly Pressed blog years ago. While I read mostly fiction novels, I really like blogs that talk about life and how people face it and get by.

  5. Stop over some time at htpps:// (I did drink Blue Sapphire in a previous life. Now I am a Project Semicolon supporter. Take a look there, too. ; ) I enjoy reading your postings. [3 1/2 years sober…]

  6. 30 something expatish parent and newbie blogger. I don’t have a target audience too neither do I understand the whole lot of stats and heavy vocabulary associated with blogging. I don’t care who my readers are as long as they read and find my posts meaningful.

  7. I have working in marketing/communications for almost 30 years and using to use databases and research to identify customer trends and then try to find people who matched that profile. I have quite a few people where we have become friends through blogging and to ensure people keep coming back, there needs to be some reason for them to come back to your blog when they could be doing so much else. I have a few themes I write about: dogs, cooking, family, dance, musi, reading.
If you have a number of people who follow your blog because for example you both have dogs, kids etc. Love reading similar books.
I’m falling asleep so I’d better get to bed.
    xx Rowena
